Our Company History
Al-Amood Company was founded in 1935 by Al-Amood family grandfather Abd Al-Razzaq and operated in Basra city, Southern Iraq as a general contractor. By 1960 Al-Amood had become the largest shipping company in Iraq operating the Basra ports.
In 1976, Dr. Naji Al-Amood, founder’s son, received his PhD in Mathematics from Edinburgh University, Scotland and began to shift the company toward the technology sector.
Al-Amood re-registered as Qumit Al-Amood Engineering in April 2003 after the fall of Saddam and resumed general contracting services in the southern Iraq area.
The company began importing heavy machinery and equipment to Iraq to aid reconstruction efforts.
Hani Naji Al-Amood, son of Dr. Al-Amood and Virginia Tech graduate, renewed the interest in technology and has focused the company towards communications systems for security forces by establishing facilities in the International Zone close to Iraqi and US Government forces.
